World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51 million spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB announced this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American average was 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen various languages.
