Close to 25,000 Left Without Electricity in Queensland and Victoria Following Powerful Weather Systems
Approximately 25,000 homes in southeastern Queensland woke up lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the region, generating powerful gusts topping 109km/h.
Substantial Hailstones and Widespread Destruction
Locals reported substantial frozen pellets as large as 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities announced that various areas across the state had been hit with significant hail.

Emergency crews were working to restore energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units activated to manage the extensive power failures.
Victorian Climate Difficulties
At the same time, around 1,000 households in the southern state also faced power outages after Melbourne recorded its wettest day in over 500 days.
Rescue organizations responded to over five hundred emergency reports across the region, mainly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

- Wyndham area - 179 emergency requests
During the peak on the previous day, in excess of 28k energy customers in the state were without power.
Climate Outlook
Damp conditions were forecast to persist along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.
The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing severe weather risk predicted across different parts of both states.

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
